Honoring Michael, Founder of Anime Spot

AnimeKon Expo is thrilled to present its first-ever Legacy Award to Michael Smith, founder of Anime Spot. Since officially opening on September 1, 2006, Anime Spot has become a cherished community hub for pop culture fans in Barbados. Michael’s journey began at home under the name Pipedreams entertainment, and through his vision and dedication, Anime Spot has flourished, overcoming challenges and returning stronger each time.

Michael’s impact goes beyond Anime Spot; he’s a driving force in the cosplay community as a founder and coordinator of CaFa: Cosplay Runway, Cosplay on the Green, and Cosplay at the Museum. His events have significantly boosted the growth of art, craft, and culture on the island. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he pursued a lifelong dream of writing a novel, which is now in its final editing stages.

Known for his kindness and dedication, Michael has transformed Anime Spot into more than just a store—it’s a true community space. We’re honored to celebrate his contributions with this
Legacy Award.
